Some people count down to midnight with fireworks, confetti, and a glass of bubbly. But for those of us working in local government finance, the true celebration begins when the ledger clicks over to 1 July, the budget balances, and the annual plan is (finally) adopted—ideally before the last meeting runs into the small hours.
To all the dedicated finance teams, revenue managers, and spreadsheet wranglers across councils big and small—thank you. Over the past 12 months, you’ve juggled rating reviews, navigated new regulations, reconciled countless transactions, and steered your council through the adoption of the annual plan (sometimes with more versions than anyone dares to count).
